We are pleased to announce the call for participants for the training course “Peace starts with YOUth” which will take place in Rome, Italy from May 22 to May 28, 2023. This 7-day program is designed for young people aged 18-25 who are passionate about peace, security, and cooperation issues and are interested in gaining practical skills and knowledge in this field.
The training course will include a variety of activities such as lectures, workshops, group and pair work, challenges, energizers, reflection activities, and developing post-training ideas. The methodologies of non-formal education and peer education will be applied, with a focus on human rights education and Dr. King’s fundamental philosophy of nonviolence.
We are seeking participants who have a strong interest in peace, security, and cooperation issues, and who are willing to actively engage in the program. We welcome participants from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. If you have the desire to learn and grow and have a commitment to promoting peace and security in your community and beyond, we encourage you to apply.

About the Project
The “Peace starts with YOUth” project aims to enhance collaboration among youth activists in participating countries by fostering a platform for constructive dialogue and idea exchange, with the ultimate goal of strengthening peace and security. The primary focus of the project is to equip young people with the necessary skills and opportunities to voice their perspectives on peace and security in their respective communities, as well as their opinions on current affairs, while also providing potential solutions to community issues. To achieve this purpose, the project draws inspiration from Human Rights Education and Dr. King’s Nonviolence philosophy, utilizing Non-Formal and Peer Education as the primary tools. The project consists of a training course, formation, follow-up activities, and an online platform for constructive dialogue and idea exchange, thereby promoting cooperation on peace and security among youth activists in participating countries. The project is conducted in partnership with various organizations from Italy and the Western Balkans, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
About Training Course
The training course is a 7-day program that will take place in Rome, Italy from 22-28 May 2023. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, such as lectures, workshops, group work, pair work, challenges, energizers, reflection activities, and developing post-training ideas. Throughout the course, non-formal education and peer education methodologies will be applied, with a focus on human rights education and Dr. King’s fundamental philosophy. The training course aims to provide young people with the skills and knowledge to better understand issues related to peace, security, and cooperation, and to serve as a foundation for creating a generation of young people committed to working towards these goals.
Additionally, post-course activities will be designed during the training, to encourage continued engagement and application of the skills and knowledge acquired during the course. A blogging platform will also be developed during the training to facilitate ongoing discussion and exchange of ideas among participants. With the use of interactive and engaging activities, the training course hopes to create an environment that fosters growth and inspires participants to take action toward building a more peaceful and cooperative future.
Information about the training course
Accommodation and subsistence will be provided by the Italian partner AICEM.
Travel costs are covered by the sending organization, up to a maximum depending on the country of departure.
Each participant will have insurance that will cover his/her participation during the event. This insurance will be provided by the coordinator of the project AICEM. (TO BE CONFIRMED)
Participants will be selected by their sending organizations (5 participants per country).
Participants profile
The training course “Peace starts with YOUth” is designed for young people who are interested in human rights and peace-related issues and are committed to becoming change-makers in their communities. Each country partner is looking for 5 participants, who:
are aged between 18 and 25 years old;
interested in strengthening their knowledge on topics like peace, non-violence, security, and human rights;
committed to implementing follow-up activities in their local communities after the training course in Rome;
have a satisfying understanding of English;
previous experience or interest in communication is considered an asset;
Furthermore, we expect participants to bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the training course. We encourage participants to be open-minded, willing to learn and to actively engage in all activities. We believe that by sharing their knowledge and ideas, participants will help create a vibrant and dynamic learning community. We anticipate that participants will bring their creativity, enthusiasm, and passion for peacebuilding to the training, and we look forward to seeing the valuable contributions they will make to the program.
